Australia’s Best Junior Golfers Tee Off at Lonsdale Links
Posted on: 16 April
In March, we were fortunate to host some of Australia’s best junior golfers as part of the Next Gen Amateur Tour event at Lonsdale Links. The World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) event was the second NextGen Tour event of the year. Held over two days, we saw some phenomenal scores, with course records being beaten and matched in both women’s and men’s golf!
The NextGen Amateur Tour (previously Junior 6s), led by Tournament Director Ewan Porter, champions the aspirations of young golfers aged 13-25. Their mission is “to forge a dynamic and inclusive platform that not only showcases elite talent but also acts as a catalyst for personal and professional growth”. We commend NextGen for their role in connecting passionate young golfers with opportunities, empowering them to reach new heights in their golfing journey.
In some truly remarkable scenes, four players walked away as new course record holders at Lonsdale Links. Gracie Larsen and Olive Spitty became the new female course record holders with 71, beating the previous record of 73. At just 14 years old, Olive is our youngest record holder to date!
Sebastian Tso and Morten Hafkamp can lay claim to setting the new mark for men after their scores of 65. Sebastian and Morten join Max Moring as record holders at Lonsdale Links. Max has held the record since August 2022. In addition, there were also four rounds of 66 shot during our event.
Max may not have broken a record this time, but he still had a stellar 54 holes finishing as the 18-25 Male winner with -6 in cold, blustery conditions. Gracie topped off a fantastic tournament by taking out the 18-25 Female event with +7. Sebastian and Olive followed suit with the Under 18 Male and Female events, with Sebastian finishing even par and Olive with +13.
The tour now heads to Lakeside Golf Club. We give thanks to Ewan for the organisation of the event and supporting elite amateur golf.
A big congratulations to all winners and course record holders. We wish all players the best for the rest of the season!
